Michael Witt happy to make London his home

Michael Witt joined the London Broncos following Crusaders collapse in 2011 and is already settling in to the capital lifestyle.

“It’s a great area, we love living in London,” Witt told Code13. “We’ve only been here a short while but it’s been a really easy transition into the big city, it’s great to be part of it.

“I’ve been a few times into central London, it’s very exciting actually. I love to go in there, it’s certainly a place you can never get bored.”

Witt is as excited about being in London as he is forming a new half-back pairing for the London club alongside Craig Gower.

“Gower is a great player and I’ve played against him in Australia and he’s someone I’ve got alot of respect for.

“I’m really excited about pairing up in the halves with him and hopefully things will work out.”

Witt is one of 10 new signings for the Broncos as the David Hughes, the club chairman spends up to the salary cap, but the half-back, nicknamed ‘Wittdog’ by his team mates, is looking forward to playing alongside a London regular.

“Someone I’m looking forward to playing alongside is Luke Dorn, he’s an outstanding player with blistering pace, and it’s great to have someone in your team like that.”

Will joined the Broncos shortly after the collapse of Welsh club Crusaders as Witt recalls, “I’d resigned with the Crusaders for three years, then obviously a few things went down and we went under. The days after that I looked around for a club and I was lucky enough to fall on my feet at Broncos, we wanted to come so it all worked out for me.”

And Witt hopes the similarities with the Crusdaers and London are limited to just being non-heartland clubs.

“Hopefully it’s not too similar to Crusaders, I guess it’s not a rugby league stronghold down here in London as it was in Wales. I think if we can just concentrate on the team and get the results, hopefully the support will come with that.

Witt missed the pre-season game with the Catalan Dragons due to a delay with his visa which he is hopeful of receiving before the opening game of the season against St Helens on February 4.

“Touch wood it’ll be here, waiting on it any second now. I’m hoping it’ll be Friday, hopefully.”

Meanwhile the Broncos face the start of the season without at least three of their players. New recruit Matt Cook, signed from Hull KR during the off-season is likely to be out for up to four weeks with a knee injury, while Dan Sarginson will miss 8-10 weeks as he recovers from wrist surgery. Veteran prop forward Karl Temata will miss up to eight weeks following knee ligament damage sustained at the pre-season match game with the Catalan Dragons.
